After the US launch of its first EVs last year, VinFast is finally ready to deliver two more models to American customers. The new VF 6 is a crossover designed by Italian design house Torino Design. It has a 12.9-inch infotainment display on the inside. Its most significant design element is the front light bar. 
The entry version of the compact SUV, VF 6 Eco comes with a 174-HP drive unit, whereas the higher-end version VF 6 Plus is equipped with a 201 hp (204 PS) electric motor. Both versions carry the same 59.6-kWh battery pack. VF 6 Plus can travel up to 237 miles, according to European <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/ev-range-tests-explained-comparison-between-epa-ratings-wltp-nedc-and-cltc/">WLTP</a> test cycle.

BYD Atto 3 has become BYD&#8217;s first globally available electric vehicle. It is officially go on sale in Australia, Japan, Singapore, India, New Zeland, Cambodia, Thailand. European countries such as Germany, United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, are also expected to get their taste of BYD&#8217;s compact EV later in the 2022. 
Atto 3 is basically the rebadged version of the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-yuan-plus">2022 BYD Yuan Plus</a> launched in China last year. It has two battery options called standard and extended range, offering an energy capacity of 49.92 kWh and 60.49-kWh, respectively. BYD Atto 3&#8217;s <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/ev-range-tests-explained-comparison-between-epa-ratings-wltp-nedc-and-cltc/">WLTP</a> range estimate is around 420 kilometers. It supports up to 80 kW DC and 11 kW AC charging speeds.
<h2>BYD Atto 3 European Pricing</h2>
BYD Atto 3 European starting price is €38,000. The first vehicles will be delivered in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Nertherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. More countries will follow in the coming months. 
BYD is selling Atto 3/Yuan Plus with a starting price of $20,120 in China. Extended range version only costs $21,580, or 147,800 CNY. In Australia, customers pay around $32,900 for the extended range Atto 3.

Changan Auto is one of the largest automakers in China. Recently, it has developed a new vehicle platform called EPA1, which supports all kinds of powertrain options from hydrogen fuel-cell applications to battery electric systems. After some teasing and concept revealing, the first vehicle built on top of this next-gen vehicle platform is finally available and it&#8217;s called Deep Blue SL03. 
SL03 is the debut model for Changan Auto&#8217;s new sub-brand Deep Blue (Shenlan; 深蓝). The electric sedan, also known as Shenlan SL03 has a distinctive look, especially on the front side of its exterior. Frameless doors, uniquely designed headlights, 1.3 meters-long panoramic sunroof, an infotainment screen that can rotate vertically, and a highly functional head-up display are some of its features worth mentioning. 
Changan Deep Blue SL03 is being offered in three different powertrain options; battery-electric, hydrogen-electric, and plug-in hybrid. We provide you with the BEV version&#8217;s standard specs. It comes with a 258-HP rear-wheel-drive electric motor, 58.1-kWh battery pack, and offers 515 kilometers of range. 
There is also a less powerful and yet more energy-dense version available with a 79-kWh battery pack. The long-range version can travel up to 705 km, according to <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/ev-range-tests-explained-comparison-between-epa-ratings-wltp-nedc-and-cltc">CLTC</a> test cycle.

The infotainment system&#8217;s interface runs smooth, thanks to its decent chip and the operating system developed by <a href="https://megatronix.cn/">Megatronix</a> called SmartMega OS+.

<a href="https://www.licarco.com/cars?filter=byd">BYD</a> first launched its beautifully-designed electric sedan Han EV two years ago. &#8216;Dragon Face&#8217;, the design language used in the Han, has changed the way BYD makes cars recently. And now Chinese firm updated its face with a revamped version of the original design. 
The newest version of the vehicle, 2022 BYD Han EV has a sportier rear face and a new lightbar-style taillight now, and also less chrome on the front as well. It is based on BYD&#8217;s next generation e-Platform 3.0 modular vehicle architecture. The battery capacity increased from 76.9-kWh to 85.4-kWh. All-wheel-drive version of the 2022 BYD Han EV can travel up to 610 kilometers when fully charged. The long range model is even better at 715 kilometers! The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

The BYD Seal U Has Been Launched in China with a Price Starting at $18,040

⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.
🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.
🟢 Transitioning to the new-generation thermal management system called PTM 2.0 along with the battery, the 4.9-meter electric crossover can operate efficiently in both high and low temperatures.
💨 The new 001 offers a single-motor option producing 310 kW (422 HP) and a dual-motor option capable of generating 560 kW (762 HP). Hence, it’s expected to have a starting price around $40,000.
🚗 Equipped with LiDAR sensor-based autonomous driving mode, a new infotainment system powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, and numerous interior design changes, the exact price of the 001 will be revealed upon its release on February 27th.

🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. 🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

#Audi has introduced its first car developed on the all-electric PPE platform, the Q6 e-tron.
The Q6 e-tron, which is priced 10% cheaper than its sibling model, the Porsche Macan EV, developed on the same platform, stands out with both more compact and lightweight electric motors and a large prismatic cell-based massive battery.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

Although the futuristic e-bike had its formal debut in China, its products have yet to arrive in the United States. That&#8217;s about to change. The Chinese firm has revealed that the DC100 electric motorbike will be unveiled at the CES in January 2023.

CES 2023 begins on January 5 and lasts through January 8. It will be the first time Davinci Motor, a Chinese electric bike company, has brought bikes onto American soil. The largest motorcycle trade show in the world, EICMA, which takes place annually in Milan, Italy, also unveiled the DC100 in Europe in November. Therefore, entering the American market was a logical next step for the business.
Giving it a first peek at CES, according to the Chinese firm, is the &#8220;excellent chance for end-users to have a feel of the e-bike for the first time while acting as a chance for potential U.S. dealers and distributors&#8221;
<h2>DC100 Designed Against the Performance of 1,000cc Traditional Motorcycles</h2>
The Davinci DC100, which is marketed as a performance alternative to conventional 1,000cc motorcycles, has a 17.7 kWh battery that drives an electric motor with an output of 134 horsepower (100 kW / 136 ps) and 627 lb-ft/850 Nm of torque.
With these figures, the bike can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph/0 to 100 kph in 3 seconds. It can even go up to 124 mph/200 kph. The DC100 also has a level three rapid charging capability and a 249 mile/400 km NEDC range, and it can be fully charged up in 30 minutes.

The manufacturer claims that its product is more than simply an electric motorbike. They claim that it is a &#8220;robotic concept&#8221; with more than 300 chips and 200 sensors. Then, it makes use of all the data gathered to give improved performance and safety.

EPA published a list of electric cars that scored the highest MPGe, which is the MPG equivalent of the EV world. Hyundai IONIQ 6 is the most efficient electric car, according to EPA. Electric sedan&#8217;s RWD Long Range version scored a 140 MPGe. The second most efficient model is the 2022&#8217;s champion, Tesla Model 3. Popular sedan&#8217;s RWD variant got an MPGe score of 132. The third most efficient electric car is also an American-made: Lucid Air. Another Tesla vehicle, Model Y got the fourth place in EPA&#8217;s most efficient EVs ranking. Tesla&#8217;s all four models made it into the list. There are also three Hyundai, two Kia, and two Chevrolet models.

Co-founded by a former Tesla executive, Lucid Motors has also spent millions for its customly designed battery pack and electric motors. Despite being one of the most luxurious electric vehicles on the market, Lucid Air can achieve high efficiency ratings thanks to its extremely low drag coefficient: 0.21 cd.
Lucid Air Grand Touring costs $154,000 in US. It is three times expensive than the more efficient Model 3. But Air offers a luxurious interior, smooth driving experience, and much higher performance.

AWD Performance version of the G9 comes with two electric motors that can produce 551 HP and 717 Nm of torque. It also carries a 98-kWh battery pack, which gives G9 a <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/news/ev-range-tests-explained-comparison-between-epa-ratings-wltp-nedc-and-cltc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CLTC</a> range of 404 miles (650 km). The RWD model with the same pack goes even further and got a range estimate of 436 miles (702 km). There is also a smaller battery option, which offers a 78.2-kWh battery and 354 miles (570 km) of range.
Xpeng G9 is not only fast at a charging pole. It is also fast on roads, 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. Chinese company claims that G9 has the best driver-assist tech suite available to an EV. The large-size SUV is equipped with 5 LiDAR sensors, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 14 camera modules. Its self-driving unit is powered by NVIDIA&#8217;s two DRIVE Orin chips. XPILOT 4.0 is standard, but to obtain the semi-autonomous city driving feature called XNGP, customers will have to pay 28,000 yuan (~$4,000) more.
He Xiaopeng, the founder of the Xpeng, unveiled another of their products called Xpeng S4. It is the next generation DC charging station developed by the company that can reach a top charging speed of 480 kW. By the end of next year, Xpeng will install S4 ultra-fast chargers in 500 locations in China. When a G9 driver plugged his/her vehicle into an S4 charger, it will only take 15 minutes to get from 0 to 80 percent charge.

RWD G9 with a small battery costs 309,900 CNY/or $43,963 in China. The high-end version called Xpeng G9 AWD is priced at around $56,730, which is less than any electric SUV in G9&#8217;s segment.
Xpeng confirms that G9 is based on its new X-EEA 3.0 vehicle platform, which makes it an EU-ready vehicle. Chinese firm will most likely apply for an EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval for G9 in the coming months. G9 deliveries will begin this October in China. The European expansion would start as early as the first half of next year.

Leapmotor T03 is a small-size electric hatchback first hit the market in May 2020. It is the second EV that Dahua-backed EV start-up built and launched. Chinese company recently announced that Leapmotor T03 has passed the European Union&#8217;s Whole Vehicle Type Approval and it is ready to be sold in EU. Leapmotor also officially confirmed its entry into the Israeli market with the very same model. First batch of T03 are on their way to Israel. The official pricing of the electric hatchback will be announced by Leapmotor&#8217;s partner in Israel called Metro Motor.

Dongfeng Motor has partnered up with Huawei to globalize its SERES-branded electric vehicles. Israel is one of the first places they went to sell EVs. The first vehicle made into the country is an electric crossover called SERES 3. It offers up to 405 kilometers of range when fully charged. It&#8217;s not particularly powerful as the new MG ZS EV with a 119 kW front motor, but it has a large boot compared to other options.

JAC e-JS4 is being produced by China&#8217;s one of the largest automotive groups called JAC Motors. It is a fully electric compact SUV. Sehol E40X is the name of this vehicle&#8217;s Chinese version. It is also a single motor EV, which uses a 150 HP front unit. The battery capacity is 55-kWh and a range of 420 kilometers is possible when the battery is full.

9 Affordable Chinese EVs Available in Israel

Dutch solar car startup Lightyear officially announced that its first car became the most aerodynamic vehicle in the world. Prior to their successful startup, Lightyear&#8217;s co-founders were part of a university team that participates in the solar vehicle competition World Solar Challenge. As of today, these students created one of the most efficient vehicles out there. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/lightyear-one" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lightyear 0</a> will soon enter production with its new title: &#8220;The World&#8217;s Most Aerodynamic Vehicle&#8221;.

Lightyear conducted some tests in Germany according to the <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/news/ev-range-tests-explained-comparison-between-epa-ratings-wltp-nedc-and-cltc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WLTP</a> standard and officially calculated its solar EV&#8217;s drag coefficient as 0.175 cd. Before this, GM EV1 was the most aerodynamic vehicle since 1996. Lightyear dethrones GM&#8217;s first EV with its tremendous design. The company also claims that Lightyear 0 can travel more than 1,000 kilometers when used for the daily commute, thanks to the extremely low drag coefficient.
Lightyear 0 has only a 60-kWh battery pack, which is enough to get a WLTP range estimate of 625 kilometers. There are more than 1,000 solar cells placed on Lightyear&#8217;s exterior body. These cells help the vehicle generate enough energy to travel up to 70 kilometers on a sunny day. Its energy consumption figures are also too low. It only requires 8.3 kWh per 100 km/62 miles.

Only 946 Lightyear 0&#8217;s are to be made when this sleek EV hits production next month in Finland. It is described as &#8216;the classic car of the future&#8217;. Limited stock leads to a much higher price tag. Dutch company asks for €250,000 to purchase the world&#8217;s most aerodynamic vehicle. But the cheaper version is in the works.
Last July, Lightyear and Koenigsegg signed a partnership agreement to co-develop EV technologies, drivetrains, etc. Solar EV startup also stated that its next vehicle called Lightyear 2 will be a joint project by these two companies. Swedish hypercar-maker will help Lightyear develop cheaper, lighter vehicles.
There are no official details regarding the affordable Lightyear 2. But we know that it will be one of the most aerodynamic vehicles on the market. Lightyear&#8217;s latest investment worth €81 million is also to be spent on this project. Finnish Valmet Automotive will probably once again provide manufacturing services for the company.

Lightyear 0 becomes world’s most aerodynamic vehicle

Chinese EV maker XPENG unveiled its latest electric vehicle called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-g9-awd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng G9</a> last week. It was first announced in 2021, as a mid-large SUV designed to rival NIO&#8217;s highly popular offerings. Interestingly, Xpeng stated that G9 can travel up to 210 kilometers with a 5-minutes charging session. Today, Chinese company&#8217;s CEO explained this phenomenon to Chinese media.
As it turns out, Xpeng is planning to release its new S4 charging stations and launch Xpeng G9 simultaneously. These stations, which have been teased for months, support 480 kW DC charging rates. Customers who purchase a G9 will be able to visit any of these S4 stations and charge their vehicles at tremendous speeds.

UK&#8217;s well known vehicle news website Autocar.com range-tested a number of electric vehicles in both summer and winter settings to see what range they lose in real life scenarios. Unfortunately, while the journal was able to test four similar cars in both hot and cold temperatures, the other vehicles were only tested in the winter, with the proper winter range being especially in comparison to the official WLTP-rated range where feasible.
Despite the fact that the study isn&#8217;t uniform across all models tested, it does provide some evidence of range decline. The four identical vehicles evaluated through both seasons revealed a range loss of up to 20%, with the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/porsche-taycan-turbo-s/">Porsche Taycan</a> suffering the most, and the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/fiat-500e-42-kwh/">Fiat 500e</a> suffering the least. Electric vehicles are the future of the automotive world, and one of the most frequently asked questions in this new era is &#8220;What is the range of a certain EV?&#8221;. Customers looking for an EV to buy usually ask about the vehicle&#8217;s range figures first. But answering this question is not so simple because there are different test cycle standards used for calculating an electric vehicle&#8217;s range.
There are four common range tests that have been in use all over the world. These are EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) ratings, WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure), NEDC (New European Driving Cycle), and CLTC (China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle). Some range tests are more generous than the others, NEDC and CLTC are usually the most generous of them all. EPA ratings are generally the most accurate range information you can find on the internet, because of the EPA&#8217;s realistic test cycles that better simulate real-world usage of an EV. WLTP is used by European automakers and is 80-90% accurate when compared with real road tests. To sum up, EPA and WLTP range tests are very close to real-world range figures you can get from your electric vehicles, whereas NEDC and the new Chinese test cycle called CLTC are typically overstated the amount of range drivers can see in real-world use, resulting from the misinformation of the EV customers.

The EPA range test for electric vehicles is called Multi-Cycle City/Highway Test Procedure. The agency tests EVs on dynamometers and puts them through different test cycles. The testing procedure starts with charging the car and leaving it parked overnight. The next morning, EPA puts the vehicle on a dyno and starts the range estimation process.
The electric vehicle is put through multiple urban and highway driving cycles until the battery is out of charge and the car is no longer be able to run. After completing the test cycle, the EPA then multiplies the preliminary range numbers by 0.7 to provide a final rating for the EV they tested. That is how EPA rates EVs for fuel economy and mileage/or MPGe.
<h2>What is WLTP?</h2>

After Volkswagen&#8217;s Dieselgate scandal in 2015, European Union decided to introduce a new test procedure for vehicles, namely the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure). The predecessor of the WLTP, which is called NEDC (New European Driving Cycle), was developed in the &#8217;70s and is already outdated by other standards. The NEDC&#8217;s consumption and range measurements are not very close to real-traffic test results, as well.
WLTP, however, corresponds better to real traffic, it records about 20% higher consumption and EV range figures than the NEDC. The reason for this big gap between WLTP and NEDC is that the WLTP test conditions are way more realistic. WLTP uses longer driving cycles, takes into account real-world factors (air conditioning, electronics inside the car, etc.), and measures consumption figures from a broader speed range (29-82 mph).
There are also some problems with the WLTP test cycle, such as tightly controlled testing temperature. Electric vehicles tend to lose some of their range in cold weather conditions, resulting in range figures significantly lower than WLTP estimates. This can be fixed by including a cold-weather driving cycle in WLTP testing procedures. 
<h2>What is CLTC?</h2>
In the EV world, Chinese automakers are the only ones that use NEDC to test their electric vehicles&#8217; range, Americans use EPA ratings, European and Japanese manufacturers all depend on WLTP standard. But China has been gradually implementing a new fuel economy/EV range test procedure in its domestic market, namely the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle). This new standard promised to be more accurate than the old NEDC.
The new CLTC standard includes three test phases (slow, medium, fast driving). The testing process lasts 30 minutes, and the car travels about 14.5 kilometers in total. CLTC can be considered the WLTP equivalent of the Chinese automakers. There are some significant differences between WLTP and CLTC, as well. One of which is the idling duration of the car while testing the consumption; it is two times longer in the CLTC tests than the NEDC. The CLTC test cycle also includes more stops than the WLTP cycle, and the CLTC testing speed limit (114 km/h) is lower than both NEDC and WLTP.
<h3>EPA vs WLTP Range</h3>
The EPA ratings of electric vehicles are the most accurate, according to the real-world test results. The EPA range estimates are approximately 11 percent lower than the WLTP range figures. For example, an electric vehicle with 100 miles (or 100 kilometers) of WLTP range is probably going to get an EPA range estimate of around 89 miles (or 89 kilometers), 11 percent less range than the WLTP standard.
Besides EPA offering the most realistic results, WLTP is the second most trustworthy standard for determining the real range of an electric vehicle. If you want to learn the real range of your future EV, look for EPA and WLTP figures. NEDC and CLTC ranges are not very close to real-world data, as the actual driving tests showed.
<h3>CLTC vs WLTP</h3>

According to the Chinese sources, CLTC estimates are mostly higher than both WLTP and NEDC range figures. For example, an electric vehicle that has a 398km WLTP and a 484 km NEDC range estimate scored more range (509 km) when CLTC testing procedures were followed. The reason for this is that the Chinese authorities wanted to create a new testing standard that takes into account Chinese roads, traffic conditions, and Chinese driver habits. As a result, we have a more optimistic EV range test standard on our hands. 
WLTP is way more accurate than CLTC, as the data shows. The new EV range standard that replaced NEDC in China is clearly more optimistic than the other standards. Overall, CLTC range figures tend to be 15 to 25 percent higher than WLTP. Most of the Chinese EV makers already started using CLTC to show range data. Even Tesla updated its range figures accordingly.
The CLTC is in its early stage to become the only range estimation standard in China, the world&#8217;s largest EV market. That means overstated EV range figures will still be a headache for us. But it is the only range standard that prioritizes Chinese driving habits and China&#8217;s road conditions. So, from now on keep in mind that CLTC is actually a very accurate range test, but only in China. You better find yourself another range estimate, if you&#8217;re not living in there.
