The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.
🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.
🟢 Transitioning to the new-generation thermal management system called PTM 2.0 along with the battery, the 4.9-meter electric crossover can operate efficiently in both high and low temperatures.
💨 The new 001 offers a single-motor option producing 310 kW (422 HP) and a dual-motor option capable of generating 560 kW (762 HP). Hence, it’s expected to have a starting price around $40,000.
🚗 Equipped with LiDAR sensor-based autonomous driving mode, a new infotainment system powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, and numerous interior design changes, the exact price of the 001 will be revealed upon its release on February 27th.

🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. Additionally, the new generation intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C, has been integrated into the 2024 model to enhance Han&#8217;s comfort.

🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

💰Signing an agreement with Chinese Liyuan New Energy to supply 160,000 tons of LFP cathode materials, the company will pay approximately $1 billion for this order.
⚡While LG’s current batteries use NMC/NCA cathodes, LFP cathodes are gaining market share despite having relatively lower energy density due to their significantly lower cost and overcoming barriers in charging speed and winter performance.
🏭LG announced its collaboration with Chinese Huayou Cobalt last year to establish a facility in Morocco with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of LFP cathodes. Already producing LFP cells for energy storage systems, LG’s automotive-focused solutions are set to enter mass production by 2025.

6.3 billion dollars investment in Morocco from the Chinese battery giant! Gotion High-Tech, one of China&#8217;s largest lithium-ion battery manufacturers, is investing in Morocco to manufacture batteries for electric vehicles. According to the Moroccan Agency for Development, Investments, and Exports, the Chinese firm has set an investment budget of $6.3 billion.
Morocco, which has vehicle factories of BYD, Renault, Peugeot-Citroen, and Fiat, has managed to attract another significant investment with the aim of becoming an international automobile export center. Gotion High-Tech, of which Volkswagen is one of its biggest partners, will use the batteries it will produce in Morocco to feed both local production and electric vehicle factories in Europe.

The factory, which is stated to reach an annual capacity of 100 GWh when all phases are completed, will produce Gotion&#8217;s LFP cathode cells, which draw attention with their high energy density and will also supply battery solutions for various vehicles, especially electric cars.

But there has never been a mass production of passenger EVs built on the continent, except for a few African businesses that focus on building or retrofitting electric buses and motorcycles.
Mohammed Yehya El Bakkali, the company&#8217;s CEO, and Mohammed Hicham Senhaji Hannoun, executive chairman and chief technology officer, established Atlas in 2021 with &#8220;substantial private funding,&#8221; according to the official news announcement.
The companies want to sell an inexpensive, useful, and pragmatic zero-emission vehicle that draws inspiration from Moroccan style and identity. The vehicle will be manufactured with emerging markets in mind, such as some regions of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, where little to no EV infrastructure exists, and will not yet have a name or a designated production plant.
The UK-based company also states that it will concentrate on offering &#8220;advanced range-enhancing technology, battery, and charging networks,&#8221; though specifics have not yet been disclosed.
This newly founded company is attempting to create an accessible electric passenger automobile in Africa. But at the same time, we have our doubts about the conclusion since creating a mass-produced car that is dependable, economical, and appealing is a very difficult task, especially for someone who is just starting out.
