The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.
🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.
🟢 Transitioning to the new-generation thermal management system called PTM 2.0 along with the battery, the 4.9-meter electric crossover can operate efficiently in both high and low temperatures.
💨 The new 001 offers a single-motor option producing 310 kW (422 HP) and a dual-motor option capable of generating 560 kW (762 HP). Hence, it’s expected to have a starting price around $40,000.
🚗 Equipped with LiDAR sensor-based autonomous driving mode, a new infotainment system powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, and numerous interior design changes, the exact price of the 001 will be revealed upon its release on February 27th.

🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. Additionally, the new generation intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C, has been integrated into the 2024 model to enhance Han&#8217;s comfort.

🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

Four Chinese conglomerates officially announced today that they partnered up to install thousands of battery swapping stations for electric vehicles. SAIC Motor took the lead on this joint venture called Jieneng Smart Power. It aims to install swapping stations all over China, provide battery leasing services, prioritize the need for a universal swappable battery pack design, and initiate big data operations by using the information gathered from both swapping and charging stations.

CATL, the world&#8217;s largest lithium-ion battery maker, plays a crutial part in this partnership. Sinopec and PetroChina are also shareholders of the new battery-swapping business. Lastly, SAIC Motor made a deal with China&#8217;s one of the largest automotive-focused industrial zones Anting Shanghai International Automobile City to become a partner.
The Chinese government has been supporting the battery swapping business by offering generous incentives for years. By 2025, there will be more than 28,000 swapping stations in China. To achieve that companies like SAIC have been investing billions of yuan to develop and commercialize their vehicles with swappable battery packs. CATL will help SAIC Motor by providing its next-gen battery packs and battery swapping technologies.

SAIC Motor is China&#8217;s second biggest EV maker. It has a strong brand portfolio which includes MG, Roewe, Maxus, Baojun, Wuling, Zhiji Motors, and Rising Auto. Chinese automaker will launch multiple vehicles with swappable batteries across different marques. The first swapping stations will be installed alongside Sinopec and PetroChina&#8217;s gas stations. These two petroleum giants have more than 50,000 stations actively serving Chinese drivers. From now on, there will be battery swapping and high-speed charging units alongside gas-filling stations.
SAIC Motor&#8217;s high-end electric SUV called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/rising-auto-r7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rising Auto R7</a> is the first vehicle to benefit from this swapping business. Shanghai-based company will call its stations &#8216;Rising Power&#8217;. It will challenge NIO to create China&#8217;s largest battery swapping network. CATL&#8217;s connectivity of rapid battery swap stations on the island and in the surroundings is expected to expand to 30 by the end of this year when drivers in Xiamen will be able to easily find an EVOGO battery swap station within just a 1.8 miles/3 km radius
The battery manufacturer will put in place swap stations in ten cities across China, and customers will be able to access the system service through an app, according to Chen Weifeng, general manager of CATL&#8217;s subsidiary CAES, during a live online event.
According to Chen, the platform allows car owners to swap out diminished battery blocks for newly charged ones at its exchange stations. The provider will be compliant with the Chinese automaker FAW Group&#8217;s Bestune NAT multi-purpose vehicle, he said, contributing that more features would be added in the future.
He said EVOGO aimed to address &#8220;the challenge of range anxiety, inconvenience of recharging and high purchasing and driving costs&#8221; for owners.
The launch of EVOGO comes at a time when businesses in the electric-vehicle market are having to compete to cut costs and &#8220;range apprehension&#8221; in order to boost product appeal, particularly in China, where EV sales have taken off.

Since 2000, Chinese EV manufacturer NIO has established a network of 700 battery swapping stations all over China, allowing NIO car owners to exchange a rechargeable battery in three minutes. Geely also stated in September that it intends to establish 5,000 battery swapping stations for electric vehicles worldwide by 2025.

CATL Puts First Battery-Swapping Service on the Chinese Market

China is the leading force in battery swapping technology. The Chinese government has been kept pushing the idea of establishing thousands of swapping stations across the country. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/nio-et5/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NIO</a> is the biggest automaker that supports this idea, but stronger rivals are coming to the market soon. CATL will be one of them.
Ningbo-based CATL announced that it will launch a new brand called EVOGO to offer battery swapping services for electric vehicles. The world&#8217;s biggest battery cell manufacturer recently signed a partnership agreement with the Guizhou Province in China to establish swapping stations. EVOGO services initially will be offered in 10 cities. CATL will allow EV owners to swap their battery pack in less than one minute.
The strongest rival to CATL in their new business line is NIO. Chinese EV startup has established more than 750 battery swapping stations, a few of them were recently launched in Norway. NIO is planning on increasing the number of stations to 1,300 before the year ends.
