The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

⚡#BYD has revamped its popular electric sedan Han, which sold 220,000 units last year. The 2024 version of the car has been launched in China with a starting price of $25,000.
🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. Additionally, the new generation intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C, has been integrated into the 2024 model to enhance Han&#8217;s comfort.

🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

Africa has been left behind and is trailing in EV adoption while the United States, Europe, and China race toward a fully electric future regarding personal mobility.
The biggest reason for this is ascribed to the high expense of purchasing a new electric vehicle, which drove many individuals on the continent to purchase old, second-hand, gas-burning automobiles from across the world that are less expensive but more environmentally damaging.
The first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) to be constructed and designed in Africa will be unveiled by one company, Atlas E-Mobility Group, as early as 2026.

But there has never been a mass production of passenger EVs built on the continent, except for a few African businesses that focus on building or retrofitting electric buses and motorcycles.
Mohammed Yehya El Bakkali, the company&#8217;s CEO, and Mohammed Hicham Senhaji Hannoun, executive chairman and chief technology officer, established Atlas in 2021 with &#8220;substantial private funding,&#8221; according to the official news announcement.
The companies want to sell an inexpensive, useful, and pragmatic zero-emission vehicle that draws inspiration from Moroccan style and identity. The vehicle will be manufactured with emerging markets in mind, such as some regions of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, where little to no EV infrastructure exists, and will not yet have a name or a designated production plant.
The UK-based company also states that it will concentrate on offering &#8220;advanced range-enhancing technology, battery, and charging networks,&#8221; though specifics have not yet been disclosed.
This newly founded company is attempting to create an accessible electric passenger automobile in Africa. But at the same time, we have our doubts about the conclusion since creating a mass-produced car that is dependable, economical, and appealing is a very difficult task, especially for someone who is just starting out.

UK-Based Atlas To Debut First African-Designed EV In 2026

Geely officially announced that the world&#8217;s first 600 kW charging stations are coming soon. Chinese company has already started manufacturing next-gen charging equipments. These stations will serve Zeekr and other EV models Geely sells in China.

There are more than 450 charging stations Geely and Zeekr installed in the last couple of months. Most of these stations are capable of 360 kW DC charging, which is enough to give Zeekr 001 a range of 120 kilometers in 5 minutes. The next-gen chargers will be a lot more competitive than the first stations.
China&#8217;s largest privately-owned automaker is also getting ready to sell fully-electric vehicles outside of China by launching <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/zeekr-001-dual-motor-you" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Zeekr</a> brand to European customers. EV-only brand is doing really well in mainland China, as the brand&#8217;s first vehicle Zeekr 001 passed 40,000 sales last month after its launch in October 2021.
Zeekr will start its European expansion with a showroom in early 2023. Chinese brand will adopt the online-reservation policy in Europe, just like Geely&#8217;s soon-to-be online-only brand Volvo. Zeekr has plans to launch seven electric vehicles into the market. Geely expects Zeekr to sell more than 100,000 EVs in Europe by 2025.

Daimler Trucks has opened the eTruck Charging Park in partnership with Netze BW, a subsidiary of EnBW.  The charging station is in Wörth, Germany and this is the place where the German company manufactures the all-electric eActros and eEconic trucks.
The charging station for e-trucks is equipped with a total of six different charging units from the companies Siemens, ABB, Ekoenergetyka, and Alpitronic, with outputs between 40 kW and 300 kW on an area of around 2,000 square meters.
Daimler Trucks claims that the customers will have an opportunity to experience the efficiency, range, and charging characteristics of the electric trucks. Also, this will allow customers to develop a complete electric solution for their personal needs with the assistance of the experts on site. The park is also equipped with a photovoltaic system on the roof and an energy storage system. As a “proof of concept”, it is intended to demonstrate possibilities for an efficient power supply for the charging columns.

Michael Scheib, Head of Product Management at Mercedes-Benz Truck states that the main goal of the company is to offer our customers more than just an electric truck in the transformation to e-mobility.  He also says that the German manufacturer intends to provide an integrated solution that includes consulting and charging infrastructure solutions from a single source. “Our charging park for customers in Wörth is an integral part of this approach and shows customers, practically and tangibly, what charging infrastructure for their application can look like,” Scheib adds.
Axel Hausen, Head of eMob Major Projects, Marketing &amp; Special Projects at Netze BW’s Services Division, says: “Besides the technological development of all the necessary components, the development of the electric charging infrastructure is one of the factors crucial to the success of electric heavy-duty transport. Together with our parent company, EnBW, we are contributing a lot of expertise in charging infrastructure and the energy industry to the project. In Wörth, we are working with investors such as e-fleet operators, truck manufacturers, industrial and commercial customers, and municipalities to develop individual charging solutions, especially for depot logistics, that will help electric heavy-duty transport take off.”
Overall, opening a charging park seems to be a different approach to familiarizing potential customers with electric trucks and their specific needs. If this can help convince fleets to switch to EVs, we might see other manufacturers also building similar stations like this.

BYD announced that it will officially enter Japan&#8217;s passenger electric vehicle market with its three models: Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal.
BYD is familiar with the Japanese market since the Chinese company is already selling rechargeable batteries, solar energy products, all-electric buses, and all-electric forklifts. It will be a new player in the passenger electric car market.
BYD’s Atto 3, known as <a href="https://licarco.com/2022-byd-yuan-plus">Yuan Plus</a> in China, is a compact electric SUV built on BYD&#8217;s e-platform 3.0. Currently, it has two battery options: 49-kWh and the longer range 60.48-kWh one. Atto 3 is expected to be on sale in Japan in January 2023.
The second model to be sold in Japan is the <a href="https://licarco.com/byd-dolphin-405km-freedom-edition">BYD Dolphin.</a> It is an all-electric subcompact hatchback produced since 2021.  It is planned to be on the Japanese market towards the middle of 2023.
The third model will be <a href="https://licarco.com/byd-seal">BYD Seal</a>, a fully electric sedan built on BYD&#8217;s latest vehicle platform. The compact electric sedan has two engines that produce 530 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque and can travel around 650 kilometers when fully charged, according to the CLTC test cycle. BYD Seal will enter mass production later in 2022 and will be available in Japan in the second half of 2023.

BYD claims that these three electric passenger cars will bring more choices for the Japanese people and will help the EV market in Japan to grow. This BYD move will be a challenge for local EV manufacturers like Toyota, Nissan, and Honda.
Wang Chuanfu, the Chairman and the President of BYD states that the company, as one of the first companies to develop EVs in the world, has total 27-year-long expertise and experience in the industry and has mastered the advanced technologies spanning batteries, electric motors, electronic control systems, and automotive-grade chips.

Today, the Chinese manufacturer officially sells its products in 70 countries on 6 continents; however, its electric car sales are made largely in China. BYD aims to increase its EV sales in other countries.

BYD goes into the Japanese electric vehicle market with its 3 cars

Systematic electrification of the product line is highlighted in the Volkswagen Group&#8216;s investment program for the years 2022 to 2026, which was revealed in December. In comparison to earlier planning, these plans call for a 50 percent increase in capital outlay and progress costs for e-mobility, totaling €52 billion.
Spectacularly, VW is investing heavily on electric vehicles, investing more than $7 billion in North America within the next five years to &#8220;boost its product assortment, regional R&amp;D, and production capabilities,&#8221; according to the group.
The worthwhile news is that Volkswagen is becoming electric-only in America, and gasoline-powered vehicles will be phased out of the range. This will not happen immediately, but the business &#8220;plans to leave [ICE] sales at the start of the next couple of ten years.&#8221; This, predictably, necessitates a variety of new EVs, some of which will be manufactured in the United States.
